Liz Newman

Liz has over a decade of experience as a dedicated caregiver, and since 2020 she has been passionately advocating for and assisting individuals struggling with addiction. Her commitment to the community service is exemplified by her years of volunteer work with the unhoused community where she strives to uplift those in need. She brings a unique blend of compassion, resilience and genuine desire to make a positive impact. Her journey is fueled by the belief that everyone deserves support and understanding on their path to recovery and well being.

Dan Foss

Chief Foss has over 20 years of law enforcement experience, serving in various roles including Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant, and currently as Chief of Police for the Nevada City Police Department. His time in the Central Valley exposed him to the severe impacts of homelessness and addiction. Chief Foss has a strong belief in the importance of collaboration between government and non-profits to enhance community resources.

Treasurer

Dedicated member of the community for over 15 years, passionate about animal welfare she joined is deeply committed to caring for animals including her own 5 dogs, 4 cats and 60 rescued farm animals. Shanna recently joined the board of PAWSS, believing strongly in its mission and the positive impact it has on the community. With a background in the private sector and hands-on experience with non-profits, she is eager to contribute her skills and insights to further support the cause.

Shanna Leslie

Graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1987, Dr. Susan Murphy has been a veterinarian in Nevada County since 1991, former owner of Best Friend's Animal Clinic and Penn Valley Veterinary Center (now Sierra Oaks). She is the current owner and practitioner at Four Paws Animal Clinic in Nevada City. She works with several rescue groups to try to provide veterinary care at reasonable cost. She has dedicated her life to helping animals in need and being a voice for those that have none.

Dr. Susan Murphy

With over 15 years of experience in animal welfare and community service, Rose combines expertise in dog behavior and rehabilitation with a deep commitment to homeless outreach. Since 2009, she has worked professionally with dogs, including specialized experience with retired racing greyhounds, former fighting dogs, and owner surrenders. Her formal education includes graduating with honors from Animal Behavior College in 2017 with specializations in Obedience Training, Behavior Adjustment Training, Nutrition and Diet, and Pet Massage.
