Committed to Change

When Nala’s mom made the courageous decision to seek help for her drinking, one of her biggest concerns was Nala. Entering rehab meant stepping away from her daily life, and she wanted to be sure her dog would be safe while she focused on getting well.

After checking into a rehab program here in Nevada County, she committed to 30 days of treatment. When she realized how important it was to fully stabilize before returning home, she made the powerful choice to extend her stay for an additional 60 days. Because temporary foster care was in place, she could make that decision without the fear of losing her dog.

While Nala was in foster care, she thrived. She had another puppy to play with, room to run, and steady affection from experienced caregivers. Due to the extended stay, Nala spent time with two foster families, which meant even more attention and support during those months.

One of our board members personally picked up Nala each week and brought her to visit her mom at rehab. Those visits were more than just joyful reunions. They preserved their connection and gave Nala’s mom added motivation during early recovery. Seeing Nala safe and happy reminded her exactly what she was working toward.

Today, Nala is home. Her mom completed treatment and returned with the stability and strength she worked hard to build, and they are moving forward together, one steady day at a time.
