Crisis Care, Community Support

When Lexi’s mom finally settled back onto the couch after weeks of surgery and recovery, Lexi was right there, tucked into her lap like she had never left. The quiet comfort of watching their favorite shows together again was a milestone they had both been waiting for.

When Lexi’s mom needed major surgery and faced a long recovery, living on a limited income made an already overwhelming situation even harder. PAWSS stepped in to provide temporary foster care so Lexi would be safe while her mom healed. Lexi stayed with a wonderful, experienced foster mom who gave her steady structure, patience, and affection. During that time, Lexi gained confidence and began to come out of her shell, while her mom was able to focus fully on recovery without the fear of losing her dog.

While Lexi was in foster care, another unexpected challenge arose. A bear broke into her mom’s vehicle, leaving it damaged and unsafe. Providing vehicle repairs is not a service PAWSS typically offers, as our primary role is temporary foster care to keep pets safe during a crisis. Still, our board members privately rallied to raise funds because we understood how critical that car would be once Lexi returned home. Two generous local businesses, Spotless Auto Cleaning and Fletcher’s Auto Glass, donated their time and resources to repair, clean, and make the vehicle safe again.

Today, Lexi and her mom are rebuilding their routine together. They can get to appointments, take walks at the park, and simply enjoy being side by side again. Because PAWSS provided foster care during a critical moment, and because compassionate community members stepped forward to help beyond our core services, Lexi’s mom was able to recover with peace of mind, and Lexi was able to come home to the person she loves most.
